Omagh Women's Area Network in partnership with NIRWN held a BILL OF RIGHTS INFORMATION SEMINAR ON WEDNESDAY 22 OCTOBER 2008 IN THE SILVERBIRCH HOTEL, OMAGH. The purpose of this event was to deliberate the implications of a Bill of Rights for rural women and over 70 rural women attended. As part of our discussions there were a number of key issues raised specifically for rural women but at the heart of the discussion, was the need for a Bill of Rights for Northern Ireland that should provide protection for those in most need and with least choice.

As a follow up from the conference, a letter was presented to the Chief Commissioner, Monica McWilliams, which highlighted the key concerns raised at the meeting. These included:

Sexual and Domestic Violence
Health needs
Funding/Value of Community & Voluntary Service provision
